Shawn is a registered clinical counsellor who enjoys working with adolescents and adults, particularly those facing transitions such as graduation, adjustment to parenting, career changes, and retirement. her primary areas of expertise include, over-achieving, perfectionism, stress, anxiety, burn-out, career-development, and acceptance of disability. Based on each client's unique situation. Shawn utilizes a client-centered, strength based, counselling style.
Shawn was born legally blind, and understands first hand how having a disability can affect an individual's sense of self. In 2008, she founded a non-profit called Blind Beginnings, whose purpose is to support BC families raising children and youth who are blind or have low vision to reach their full potential. At Blind Beginnings, Shawn provides individual counselling and psychoeducational workshops to children and youth with vision loss, and individual counselling and grief and loss support groups to their parents.
Shaw is a retired Paralympic athlete, a wife and a mother. She provides Disability Awareness presentations to schools, community organizations, and businesses, adn is the host of a weekly podcast called Limitless. Shawn received her Masters of Education (Vocational Rehabilitation Counselling) from the University of British Columbia and is a current member of the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors.
